Last week Dr. Jose Parappully (sumedhacentre@gmail.com) presented one major symptom of schizophrenia, namely, delusions. In this edition he explores hallucinations and other symptoms.
In hallucination the person experiences an auditory (hearing voices), visual (seeing imaginary sights), tactile (feeling sensations on the body), or olfactory (related to smells) sensation that has no basis in reality, that is, happening without an external stimulus. Auditory hallucinations are the most common.

Schizophrenia (literally splitting of the brain) is the most serious of all mental disorders. Although not as common as the other major mental disorders, it debilitates people more than the others affecting their educational and occupational performance, as well as everyday life and relationships.

There is a growing body of psychological and medical research that shows positive emotions have a profound impact on our physical and mental wellbeing. Positive emotions like love, joy, hope, contentment are robust predictors of increased psychological well-being, especially during upsetting times. They optimize health, and psychological resilience. One major reason for this is that positive emotions strengthen our immune system.
Important among the dispositions, or virtues, that promote positive emotions is gratitude.

The Coming celebration of Christmas - God embodying human flesh as we read in John`s Gospel (1, 14), is a good occasion for us to reflect on another significant dimension of a Holistic Spirituality, namely, a Spirituality of Embodiment.
God taking on human flesh and blood in Jesus of Nazareth gives a whole new dimension to the understanding of the body -- human, but also all living and non-living bodies.
