Salesian university plans special projects to help northeast students

Guwahati, Sep. 18. The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) has announced a plethora of scholarships to help for students from northeastern India.

``The Don Bosco Society is in northeast India for the last 90 years, and both the vice-chancellor and I have been serving the region for the past 50 years,`` Chancellor Fr V M Thomas told a press meet today at Guwahati on the occasion of the university`s annual convocation.

``We are not a fly-by-night company, but we are here to stay,`` asserted the priest who is also the president of Don Bosco Society Guwahati.

According to him, setting up the university has been ``an ambitious project`` carried out by vice chancellor Fr. Stephen Mavely, who was the principal of Shillong`s St. Anthony`s College for 15 years. Read full text
