Chennai, Mar. 22. On Friday 20 March 2015, Fr. Bosco Augustine SDB became the first Salesian from Chennai province to obtain a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology from the Salesian Pontifical University, Rome. In the fully packed Anna Morolla Hall of the University, listening to Fr. Bosco's brilliant defence of his thesis were eminent guests such as Fr. Ivo Coelho, Councillor General for Formation, Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu, former Provincial of Chennai, and Fr. Eugenio Riva, Superior of the Vice Province of UPS, Rome.
The specific objective of Fr. Bosco's thesis titled ''Jesus, the Saviour of All. A Soteriology Centred on God's Universal Love in the Writings of Gerald O'Collins'', was to re-read the internationally renowned theologian Gerald O'Collins' ideas on Christ's salvation of all from the perspective of love.

Employing the analytical-critical method, the theme is discussed in five chapters focusing on certain essential questions of salvation, the historical dimension of human condition, the need for divine revelation and salvation, the image of Jesus the Saviour, Christ's Salvation for all, and God's benevolent love as the foundation for the salvation of all.

The thesis brings out convincingly Fr. Bosco's belief that it is love that has been the basis and foundation of the whole process of salvation for all.

Prof. Gianfranco Coffele (Moderating-President and Reader), Prof. Antonio Castellano (Thesis-Guide) and Prof. Jos Luis Plascencia (Reader) who formed the panel of examiners were highly appreciative of the way the author developed the theme, the clarity of presentation and the skillful interpretation of the author. They also commended Fr. Bosco for his dedication to his research, his consistency at work and his confidence in answering the questions posed to him.

After an hour and a half of 'intellectual treat', Prof. Gianfranco Coffele, the Moderator and President, with great appreciation, conferred upon Fr. Bosco the title 'Doctor of Theology'. The audience in their turn expressed their appreciation with a thunderous applause.
