Don Bosco School Silchar Launches 'Clean Silchar Abhiyan'

By Nelson Joseph sdb
Shillong, Nov. 8. Don Bosco School, Silchar launched the 'Swachh Silchar Abhiyan' on 7th November 2015 at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) located in the city.
The short inaugural program that commenced the drive also featured oath taking by the students. Ms. Indrani Laskar, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Silchar, was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural function held in the school premises.  In her address Ms Laskar emphasized that cleanliness should become a habit among the students and they should convince others around them to keep the surroundings clean. It should not be a programme limited to just a single day but become the agenda of a life time.

Fr. Nelson Joseph, the Principal of the school, in his speech added that 'Clean Silchar' would be a gift to Gandhiji on his 150th birthday, an event that will be celebrated in 2019. It is not possible to clean the entire Silchar but we start off a little at a time, beginning by cleaning the nearby ISBT. He told the students that they are young and hence ambassadors of change. Clean Silchar is possible and all the people of Silchar should make sustained efforts to achieve it.

Around 600 students and 40 Staff took part in the 'Clean Silchar campaign.
