Meghalaya Mission Green Award conferred on Salesian Fr. P.D. Johny

Guwahati, Jan. 29. Fr. (Dr) P. D. Johny, the Principal of Don Bosco College Tura, Meghalaya was awarded the ''Mission Green Award'' by the Government of Meghalaya for his outstanding initiative at maintaining a clean and green environment on 26th January. Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya conferred the award to Fr. Johny in the presence of many dignitaries and government officials. The award was given on the occasion of the State celebrations of the 66th Republic Day of the country, at the Tura Stadium.
The Certificate of Appreciation reads thus: ''This is to place on record our sincere appreciation for Fr. Dr. P.D. John, SDB, Principal, Don Bosco College, Tura in taking up a leadership role in awareness dissemination for 'Clean & Green Meghalaya' and motivating stakeholders, youth and partners to preserve our environment and keep our surroundings clean and pristine. Your exemplary leadership in all environmental campaigns that you have spearheaded has earned you the title of 'Mission Green Champion' and I am pleased to confer the Mission Green Award on you. ''

Fr. Johny in his interaction after receiving the award said that the college has taken bold initiative to create awareness on clean and green environment. ''Keeping the environment clean is the need of the hour. We want to make the college campus a clean campus and every student to be responsible citizen and the ambassador of cleanliness,'' Fr. Johny said.

Last year in July Fr. P. D. Johny had been conferred with the 'Pioneer of Education' appreciation certificate. The certificate was awarded by the West Garo Hills District Administration, Meghalaya in recognition of the untiring efforts in providing innovative, quality and value-based education through the esteemed Don Bosco educational institution.
