DBSTI Tezpur conducts Teachers' Effectiveness Training Programme

Guwahati, Dec. 26. The Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute, Tezpur, Assam organised two days Teachers' effectiveness training Programme for the Teachers and Principals of Sacred Heart Congregation on 17 and 18 December in the institute. 30 teachers including principals took part in the programme.
The resource persons were Prof. Amar Jyoti Choudhoury, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, Fr. V. M. Thomas SDB, the Provincial of Guwahati Province, and several other Salesians.

Prof. Amar Jyoti Choudhoury who was also the Chief Guest at the inauguraal programme uncovered the ABC's of Leraning Revolution in his speech. He spoke of several concepts such as Aiding the mind of the students, bringing activities in the schools, cracking the walls of information and knowledge, and daring the syllabus.

Fr. V. M. Thomas SDB, at the introductory session stressed on Learning by Doing as a method to effective teaching. Fr. Alex Mathew SDB, Associate Director of Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute Tezpur, guided the teachers on Classroom and School events and activities management. Fr. Bivan Mukhim SDB, Associate Director of Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati, addressed the teachers on Effective Communication as a tool to make the teaching interesting and effective for the present generation students. Fr. Cletus Sebastian SDB, Director of Don Bosco Socio-Technical Institute Tezpur,  moderated the Students Panel during wich the students were given the platform to express their expectations from their teachers in the school, and to bring out the aspects of Students-Teachers relationship which paved a way for discussion and sharing from both the students and the teachers. He further led the teachers to initiate and encourage Creative and Critical thinking in the students.

''2015 will be a different year for me as a teacher'', one of the participants commented. ''I am inspired to teach better and to give my best in my profession. This programme has enabled me to look at my profession with different angle and this time more with love and duty,'' another commented.

The programme brought in lots of enlightenment and enthusiasm amidst the teachers and principals. It has changed their views of education and made a paradigm shift from traditional ways to the ways of the time - 21st century style of educating the students.
