Kolkata, Nov. 29. .   VENICE: The fourth phase of the Intercontinental Seminar on Education and Social Inclusion was concluded yesterday 28 November in Venice, Italy. The seminar was organized by  IUS (Salesian University Institutions). From India the Asian coordinator, Fr. (Dr.) George Thadathil represented the Indian Salesian higher education institutes.
Since 2012 the Salesian Higher Education Group has been bringing together the experiences of interventions through University education to address the issue of social inclusion. Three intercontinental seminars were organized to achieve this goal:  The first one in Madrid, on ''Inclusion and Disabilities''; the second in Sao Paolo, Brazil focusing on ''Inclusion and Social Community''; and the third in Darjeeling, India on ''Inclusion and Diversity''.

The final phase just concluded in Venice in the context of the bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth was intended to sum up the linkage attempted between Salesian pedagogy and the issue of social inclusion in the background of the contemporary attention to human rights.

Juan Sabino of CES Madrid and the Group Coordinator helped to clarify this linkage presenting a paper on the significant notion of responsibility and freedom experience as the knowledge base derived personally and in groups by youth and youth workers and educators.

General Coordinator, Mario Olmos, who was formerly the director of the group, outlined the history of the Group and its role as envisaged along with the other groups. The previous three phases were summarised by the respective organizers George Thadathil of Salesian College, Sonada (India), Romane Fortes of Lorena, Sao Paolo (Brazil), and Patricia Reveulta of Madrid (Spain).

The meeting took place from 26-28 November at the IUSVE, a Salesian university institution located on the outskirts of the city of Venice, offering bachelors and masters programmes in communication, psychology, education and social work to over 1000 students of the locality.
