Kolkata, Jan. 1. To some it seemed like a celebration. To some it seemed a protest march. To most it was a show of richness of variety in cultural heritage. Dressed in sarees in the hues of white, red and pink specific to traditional attire of Bengali and Nepali people the choreographed movements urged the people to heed the call to heal the world. Mother Theresa walked with the poor, accompanied by goddess Durga in the form she is worshiped at Dasahara. In varied socio-religious symbols the procession entered into the lanes where people had comfortably chosen to stay on the last day of the year. The people needed to awake to the New Year with a reminder. The steps of young scouts and guides had ventured on the roads of Bandel to communicate the message of peace.
The procession was a part of the ongoing Juboree 2014, the biannual Meet of Scouts and Guides. The Juboree, inaugurated on December 29 has its focus on the theme ''Heal the World.'' While on the earlier days, the training camp for the scouts and guides limited itself to education and fun inside the campus, the third day was time to step out for a mission of peace.

Without disturbing the regular movement on the road, the peace march met with affectionate eyes of the residents and travelers on the road.  While a police van stayed in watch, people readily made way for the young soldiers and enjoyed the music, dances and slogans for peace.

Several viewers grabbed their cameras and phones to record the beauty of peace these young students displayed. The scouts and guides stayed steadfast in enjoying every moment of celebrating peace. Clad in various cultural garbs, singing in varied languages and performing dances in several traditional fashion, the troops endorsed the beauty of unity in diversity.
