Shillong, Aug. 27. St. Dominic Savio Parish Mawlai, Shillong, brought together all priests and religious from the parish in a unique gathering it organized on 24th August 2014, in connection with the ongoing yearlong celebrations of its Platinum Jubilee. The impressive line up of 15 priests and 53 religious sisters included six Salesian priests. Prominent among them were Archbishop Dominic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong, Fr. Paul Olphindro Lyngkot, the Vice Provincial of the Salesian Province of Silchar and Fr. Patrick Warjri, a veteran missionary to Argentina.
The high point of the gathering was the Holy Mass that a large number of faithful attended and Archbishop Jala presided over. In his sermon he explained the importance of jubilee celebrations and said that a celebration like this calls for a renewal of the heart. He invited the families to pray for the priests and religious of the parish and to encourage the growth of vocations in families. ''We need many more young boys and girls to dedicate their lives to the service of the Lord. Families must encourage their children to embrace priesthood and religious life,'' the prelate said.

At the beginning of the Mass, Fr. Roland Kharkrang SDB, the Pastor of Mawlai Parish welcomed the 'sons and daughters of the Parish' and thanked them for having come from different parts of the North East 'to be united with the Parish on this unique occasion'. Reminding the gathering of the ongoing Platinum Jubilee he said the purpose of the Assembly was 'to thank the Lord for the parish that completes 75 years of its existence and to pray for more vocations from the parish in this universal year of the family'.

In the afternoon the youth of the parish, particularly the Post Graduates students, interacted with Archbishop Jala and some of the priests. The Archbishop spoke to the youth about the challenges they would encounter in their daily life. He encouraged them to work hard to achieve their dreams.

Mawlai Parish is ten months into the yearlong Jubilee celebrations. Hoisting of the Jubilee Flag by Archbishop Jala on 27th October 2013 had marked the inauguration of the yearlong celebration of the Platinum Jubilee of the Salesian parish of Mawlai. The prelate had declared open the Jubilee Year in front of a large gathering of faithful and well-wishers. Present at the occasion as Guest of Honour was Health Minister, Government of Meghalaya, AL Hek who unveiled the jubilee plaque. During the year numerous competitions and programmes were organised to mark the occasion.
