Guwahati, Jul. 31.  The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul M. Sangma, honoured outstanding educationist and popular author Salesian Fr. Dr. P.D. John, principal of Don Bosco College of Teacher Education Tura conferring on him the ''Pioneer of Education Award,'' 30th July.
The certificate of Appreciation reads, ''This is to place on record our sincere appreciation to Dr. (Fr.) P.D. John, SDB, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura for his outstanding and innovative leadership that has been instrumental in promoting enterprise, discipline and self-belief amongst the students of Don Bosco College under overall aegis of value based education imparted by him and his institution.''

''Your partnership and collaboration with state government's flagship programmes like Chief Minister's Career Guidance Scheme (CMCGS), Chief Minister's Youth for Green Campaign (CMYFG), and Integrated Basin Development & Livelihood Promotion Programme (IBDLP) is highly valued and appreciated. You are congratulated for your valuable contribution in shaping the future of students.''

The citation concluded saying, ''You are acknowledged and appreciated as a true 'PIONEER OF EDUCATION'''

Dr. John Parankimalil, popularly known as Fr. P.D. Johny received the 1st Computer Excellence Award for Schools from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, then President of India in August 2002 when he was the Principal of St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School, Shillong.

Dr John was the National President of All India Association of Catholic Schools (AINACS), New Delhi and the Charter President of Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong.

The ICSSR (Indian Council for Social Science Research) awarded PhD Fellowship for his thesis on 'A Study on School Dropouts at Secondary Level in Meghalaya with Special Reference to East Khasi Hills District'.

Dr John who has many years of experience in the field of education and leadership training received Guruvar Lifetime Best Teacher Award from Gems Foundation conferred by Dr. Kapil Sibal, then HRD Minister at New Delhi in December 2009.

Dr John' s previous publications include He Can Who Thinks He Can (Macmillan, 2000); The Way to Success and Happiness (Savio, 2003); An Elocution Manual (Orient Longman, 2004), Basic Catechism For All (Don Bosco, 2006 and 2011); Progressive Parenting (Cognet, 2007, Unicorn, 2009), Personality Development (Savio, 2010), Inspirational Stories for Purposeful Living (Bhabani, 2010); and How to Win Over Your Problems (Bhabani, 2010).
