B.Ph. Programme inaugurated at Salesian College, Sonada

Kolkata, Jul. 24. The official inauguration of B. Ph. Programme at Salesian college Sonada was held on Thursday 17th July 2014. The function commenced at 9.30 AM with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest Rt. Rev. Bishop Stephen Lepcha, Bishop of Darjeeling Diocese.
During the programme the annual report was presented by Fr. CJ George SDB, the vice-principal of the College summarizing in detail the forgone events of the whole year. Bishop Stephen Lepcha in his short speech emphasized on the importance of philosophical studies wherein he pointed out the necessary blending of faith and reason to form a person intellectually competent, spiritually sound and morally upright.

The keynote address was given by Fr. Tomy Augustine SDB, visiting professor and assistant parish priest of St. Teresa Parish Sonada. He motivated all the students highlighting on 'How to study Philosophy' especially on the level of cognitive formation.

This inaugural function was crowned by the release of two booklets and a journal - the magnificent jewels of the day.
The journal is the fifth issue of the Salesian Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences. Engaging the Spiritual it highlights the importance of reason and faith from multi-disciplinary research perspectives. It is a complete package of theology and philosophy blending harmoniously to mould and season the budding philosophers.

The two booklets were Nepali translations of works authored by Fr. CJ Sebastian SDB. The booklets entitled Healer Heal Me and Jesus the Healer, talk about the necessity of faith and belief. The translations were done by Mr. Robert Lepcha, a Salesian Cooperator and Office staff.

The Inaugural function was well organized by the II year B.Ph. Students of the College. The programme ended with a melodious song 'Carry your candle, unto the darkness' focusing on the motto spirit of the College 'Flama Ardens Et Lucens'.
