Bangalore, Jun. 15. Don Bosco is in news in Karnataka these days for conscientising the society on Child Labour Issues. Media highlighted Don Bosco's contribution in several parts of the state of Karnataka. On 12 June, World Day against Child Labour, Don Bosco organized elaborate awareness and action campaigns against child labour throughout the State of Karnataka.  Public meetings and rallies involving Government Departments, NGOs, School Students, and the public in large numbers were held in Bangalore, Chitradurga, Davangere, Deodurga (Raichur Dt), and Hospet (Bellary Dt).  Every speaker used the occasion to denounce child labour and declare commitment to root out child labour from Karnataka.  The functions were presided over by leaders of Child Right Clubs in the districts.
On this occassion, Minchu, a collection of songs on Child Rights, and posters and handbills advocating child rights were released.  Champions of Child Rights in various districts of Karnataka were honoured during the gatherings.  In view of these events, BREADS (Bangalore Rural Educational and Development Society) held a press conference on 11 June in Bangalore.  Through its CREAM (Child Rights Education and Action Movement) Project, launched in November 2012, the Agency has already accomplished an admirable number of activities on behalf of child rights:

1. Formation of 213 Child Rights Clubs (CRC)
2. Training for 30613 children
3. Training for 4761 Adults
4. Imparting of Human Rights Education (HRE) in 184 schools for 12243 children
5. Training 266 Teachers from 189 schools for HRE
6. Training 490 youth
7. Supplementary education for 3357 children in 103 centres
8. Formation of 33 task forces
9. Conduct of 10 Peer education programmes for 434 children
10. Formation of 3 Regional networks
11. Formation of Karnataka State level network
12. Organization of 8 Public Campaigns

The celebration of World Day against Child Labour (2014) has created a consensus on fighting together the evil of child labour in Karnataka.  It is hoped that with such a firm resolve and determination child labour will be soon extinct in the State.
