Boscoree 2014 takes off with call to Heal the world with Love By Boscoree Media CommiteeTiruchy, Dec. 30. The 12th Boscoree began today, 30 December, with over 3000 enthusiastic scouts and guides gathered in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. Fr. Albert Johnson SDB Provincial of Trichy province, president of the event declared the Boscoree2014 open with a call to ''Heal the world with Love'', the theme of the Boscoree this year. This is the 12th Boscoree being held, bringing together the Don Bosco Scouts and Guides from all over India. This year's Boscoree gets an added significance as it is being held in the 200th centenary year of Don Bosco's birth.
3225 participants belonging to 160 scout troops and guide companies from the Don Bosco Institutions all over India are participating in this mega event, with 260 organisers including Salesians, Salesian Sisters, Rovers and Rangers.
The solemn inauguration of Boscoree 2014 began at 5.30 pm in the presence of the Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Mr. Kulandai Francis, Ramon Magsaysay award winner and President of TVDP Krishnagiri.
At the start the Scouts and guides displayed a brilliant march past, and Fr. Albert Johnson SDB, the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Tiruchy received the salute of honour.
The inauguration began with the hoisting of the National Flag, National Scout Flag and the Don Bosco flag respectively by three veteran Scout Masters who attended all the eleven Boscorees conducted so far in India, namely Mr. Rajasudamani, Mr. Lawrence and Mr. Peter. The Guides of Auxilium, Thanjavur, welcomed the gathering with a beautifully choreographed welcome dance.
Trichy Vice Provincial Fr. Doss Kennedy welcomed the Guests of honour, Salesians, Salesian Sisters, the scout masters, rangers, rovers, Scouts and Guides from all over India. A group of Scouts and Guides honoured the guests on the dais with scarves and mementos.
Fr. Albert Johnson SDB declared the Boscoree 2014 open with a call to heal the world with Love, compassion and brotherhood and to promote justice and peace all over the world. He released a book on Boscoree named 'Scouting through Boscoree' edited by Fr. John Barnabas SDB, one of the members of the organizing core team. Sr. Magnificat the Provincial of FMA Province of Chennai addressed the gathering and invited the scouts and guides to inculcate empathy and love to heal the world.
Mr. Arun Thamburaj, the Deputy Collector of Thanjavur, one of the eminent guests, proudly declared that he is an alumnus of Don Bosco and was himself a Scout. He advised the Scouts and Guides to own their failures and share their success. He wished everyone to be sincere, honest and live with precision and smartness.
Chief Guest Mr. Kulandai Francis addressed the participants saying we are here to change ourselves and the world around us. He recommended the Scouts and Guides not to be carried away by pride after gaining success, and not to get dejected by failure. He asked them never to feel bad in distress and never to give up hard work.
Fr. Rajadevan Pushpanathan, the Camp Chief, thanked the guests, organizers and the participants gathered for Boscoree 2014. The Alaihal Media team led the singing and dancing of the Boscoree Anthem at the conclusion of the inauguration.
The event which had a colourful start today will last till 3 December.
