Shillong, Dec. 23. The only Ordination in Silchar Province for the year 2014 took place in Nongpoh Parish on the 21st of December. Deacon Dominic Savio Jyrwa SDB was ordained a priest by His Grace Most Rev.Archbishop Dominic Jala SDB.
The day resonated with the joyful feelings of excitement and joy. With the blue sky on top and the hectic preparations below, the day was befitting for a divine event. As the clock ticked 9:15 am, the faithful began flocking to 'Our Lady of Assumption' Parish, Nongpoh. At 9:30 am the beats of the 'Jingshad khat-ar Lyngdoh' could be heard from the gates of the Parish along with the dancers who spearheaded the procession leading the Ordainee to the Parish Church.

The Entrance Procession of the Mass was led by a group of traditional dancers, with graceful steps to the beats of the 'Bhoi' tunes. They were followed by 35 concelebrants, the deacon to be ordained along with his family members and finally by the Archbishop.

Fr Johny Eapen SDB welcomed everyone to the ordination ceremony. A serene and tranquil atmosphere pervaded all through the ceremony. Interestingly, a short duration of seismic jolt during the 'Litany of the Saints' reminded everyone about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost day.

In his Homily, the Archbishop spoke about the communal forces assailing the Church and the need to reinforce one's faith in God. He invited Deacon Dominic to 'Be a faithful priest'. He also spoke elaborately about the episode of the Annunciation and related it to the life of a priest or a religious. Just as Mary said 'Yes' and faithfully lived up to that call, he also invited every priest and religious to do like-wise.

At the end of the Mass, Fr.Dominic Savio Jyrwa SDB delivered the vote of thanks and felicitated Archbishop Dominic Jala SDB, Fr.George Maliekal SDB (Provincial), Fr Paul Olphindro SDB (Vice-Provincial), Fr Glorious S (Parish Priest) with a traditional ''ryndia'' drape. It was followed by a fellowship meal. In the afternoon, the newly ordained priest animated the Adoration service and later a felicitation programme was organized to felicitate him.

The next day, Fr Dominic Savio Jyrwa SDB celebrated his First Mass at Umjarasi, his village situated just a few kilometers from the Parish. Fr Paul O Lyngkot along with 14 priests con-celebrated in the Mass. The celebration was attended by many religious and faithful. He thanked everyone - his superiors, friends, benefactors and all those present for their help and prayerful support. The day's celebration culminated with a felicitation programme organized by the village.
