Fr. Amalraj Cappel SDB Passes Away

Chennai, Nov. 7. Fr. Amalraj Cappel SDB of the Salesian Province of Chennai passed away in the early hours of 7th November at Adamangalam, near Vellore, in Tamil Nadu. He was 63 years old. He had been ailing from diabetes-related complications. His funeral will take place at 4 p.m. on Friday 7th November at the Salesian cemetery in Tirupattur.
Born in Salem on 22 August 1951, Fr Cappel joined the Salesian aspirantate at Tirupattur in 1969 and joined the novitiate at Yercaud in 1970 and professed as a Salesian on 24 May 1971. After completing his theological studies at Kristu Jyoti College, Bangalore, he was ordained a priest on 19 December 1981 in Chennai.

After his priestly ordination he served in a number of Salesian institutions both in Chennai and Tiruchy provinces. He was Rector of Dominic Savio, Tirupattur for six years 2003-2009. The last five years, he had been the Vice-Rector and Administrator of St. Antony's Church and Don Bosco Children's Village, Adamangalam, Veeralur.

Fr. Cappel was always known as a faithful friend. As an administrator in many institutions, he was very methodical and conscientious in his work. As parish priest he was a zealous pastor who showed concern for the spiritual growth of the people.  May his soul rest in peace.
