Panjim, Oct. 16. The Salesian Province of Panjim organized a seminar for Don Bosco teachers on 11 October with ''Revisiting the educational system of Don Bosco in the light of modern challenges in education today,'' as its theme.  The goal of the seminar was to provide quality guidance to the Don Bosco teachers across the Panjim Province and to enable them to make teaching an enjoyable activity.
Panjim Provincial Fr Ian Figueiredo delivered the key note address in which he encouraged the educators to ''work with their heart''. He said ''working with a youthful population is a challenge which can be overcome if we as collaborators have refined attitude towards teaching. It is also imperative to work with our youngsters keeping in mind the Preventive System formulated by Don Bosco.''

A team from Parisar Asha, Mumbai conducted a session on 'Challenges and Modern Trends in Education Today'. They emphasized that the lesson transactions today need to cater to not only different learning styles, but also to Multiple Intelligences in the classroom. Besides Inclusive Education, they spoke about amalgamation of EQ and IQ. They stressed on the significance of activities in classroom teaching as they are the catalysts for learning.

Fr Godfrey D'Sa SDB, founder - director of Prafulta Psychological Services, Mumbai focused on  issues affecting youngsters today. He highlighted the conflict between values and culture among today's generation. He exhorted the educators to give roots and wings to the youngsters by building their self esteem. ''We the educators are the barefoot counselors who should always stand by the youth entrusted to our care,'' he said.

Fr Glenford Lowe SDB explored the aspect of principled, professional, passionate and prophetic teaching strategies through his presentation titled 'The Salesian Educator: living the legacy today'. His motivational talk on how to capture the mind and heart space of a youngster through the Don Bosco Educational system captured the mind and heart of the educators themselves. His concept of changing the Caramba moments to Eureka moments also enamoured all the teachers.

About 350 teachers from the various Don Bosco Institutions across the Province of Panjim participated in the seminar conducted as a part of the ongoing celebration of  the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth.
