Guwahati, Oct. 14. Don Bosco Socio Technical Institute (DBSTI), Tezpur organised a 'Youth Development Programme' for young school dropouts of the Gogra Tea Estate in Sonitpur district of Assam from 11-13 October.
Sixty young people attended the programme which had as its objective their empowerment to be ''leaders of change in the society.'' Through motivation and career guidance they were shown the way to their future.

The three-day programme provided a wide range of services, opportunities and support to young people as well as their families. The organizers provided help in building the strengths of young people through skills development, leadership training, mentoring and transitioning youth through different life and problem stages. ''The programme is done on a holistic level utilising social inclusion of most youth with a specific focus on tribal youth of the tea gardens,'' said the youth programme coordinator Br Edward Kujur.

A participant commented after the programme that a youth development programme of this sort would help young people like him to open up to the rich varieties of opportunities that are available for them.  ''This programme is indeed an opportunity for us young people to take responsibility for our well-being and a help to steer us in the right direction,'' he said.

The Youth department of DBSTI  after just a couple of months of its establishment, is making a headlong venture to reach out to many more Tea Garden and village youth of the area through various development programmes. The Youth Development Programme is spearheaded by Br Eddy Edward Kujur SDB, along with his team.
