Kolkata, Jan. 20. All roads led to Joypur on 18th January, 2014 as Deacon Charles Murmu was ordained a Priest in the Parish of Joypur, Birbhum by Rt. Rev. Cyprian Monis, Bishop of Asansol in the presence of 5000 people, during the Eucharist concelebrated by over 50 Salesian and Diocesan priests.
At 10.00 AM the ordination ceremony commenced with Fr. Raymond Tudu explaining to the faithful the significance of the event. He presented the bio-data of the candidate in Santali. A lively entrance dance by the parishioners of Joypur ushered in the Bishop and the priests to the altar. Fr. Jose Pampadiyil declared the worthiness of the candidate to be ordained. Melodious singing by the boarding boys and girls of Joypur conducted by Fr. Peter Mardy the Rector and Parish Priest added much charm to the celebration.

After the Communion the newly ordained thanked his Lordship Bishop Cyprian Monis for his availability and all the priests, religious and the faithful for their prayerful presence. In particular, Fr. Murmu recalled all his past Rectors and thanked them for their support and encouragement. He thanked the community at Joypur with its twin presences at Barapahari and Dumka for their commitment and hard work in hosting the event.
The family members of Fr. Charles expressed their gratitude by offering a shawl each to the Bishop, Fr. Provincial, Fr. Vice- Provincial and Fr. Peter Mardy and the Parish Priest of Hatimara. A felicitation programme followed the Holy Eucharist during which the newly ordained challenged the numerous boarding boys and other youngsters present at the ceremony in these words, ''Several years back I attended an Ordination ceremony and I was inspired to become a priest. My dear boys you too must come forward to serve the Lord.''

The newly ordained is scheduled to celebrate his first Mass in his home parish at Hatimara at 10.00 AM on Sunday, 19th January 2014.
