Kolkata, Dec. 31. Deacon Solomon Rai SDB was ordained priest by His Lordship Stephen Lepcha, Bishop of Darjeeling on 30th December at 10.00 AM at St. John Bosco Church, Malbasey.  Rev. Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, Provincial of the Salesian Province of Kolkata, several religious, priests including many Salesians from various presences in the province participated in the ceremonies.
Among the many guests and friends who took part in the ordination of the first Salesian in Sikkim were the novices from Nazareth Bhavan , the faithful from St. Theresa's Parish, Sonada as well as a large number of people from Dhajea.  A strong sense of unity and synergy was felt by all as each one came forward to greet the newly ordained priest.

The Salesians along with the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians and the local parishioners prepared the venue for the celebrations.  The liturgical celebrations went on very well assisted by the local choir group who sang beautifully.

Fr. Solomon Rai hails from Dhajea in the hills of Darjeeling.  He felt the call to Salesian and priestly life inspired by the great missionary of Darjeeling hills, Fr. Luigi Jellici who passed away a few years back. Fr. Solomon completed his theological studies in Kristu Jyoti College Bangalore and now he is pursuing  M.Th studies in Bangalore.
