Kolkata, Aug. 19. The Past Pupils, Don Bosco Youth Animation Centre, Kalyani (W.B.) celebrated Bosco Jayanti in a fitting manner on 16th August. The celebration comes in the wake of passing from the second to the third year of preparations for the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birthday in 2015, moving on from the knowledge, study and analysis of the pedagogy of Don Bosco to deepening and making our own his spirituality.
On 16th August, at 4 pm the Past pupils of DBYAC gathered together to honour Don Bosco through a cultural program in the presence of the boarding boys and about 150 parishioners (youth and adults). On this occasion the Strenna 2013 for the Salesian Family, ''Like Don Bosco the educator, we offer young the Gospel of joy through a pedagogy of kindness'', was presented to the Past Pupils, making them truly feel a part of this big family.

As a living memory all youth of the nieghbourhood  and past pupils were invited to this joy of knowing, loving Don Bosco and expressing their gratitude through a cultural program followed by a short meeting and tea party.

Fr. Soroj Mullick, Rector and Director of the youth animation centre, through a PowerPoint presentation urged the youth to become aware of their freedom and express it by engaging themselves in keeping connected with each other for a cause. He made the youth repeat, ''India, my country I am proud of being a youth.'' He made them promise that they would do their best to fulfill their roles through teamwork and with intimacy, passion and commitment.

Theme songs and patriotic dances performed by the past and present students also added much joy and togetherness during the gathering. One present student impersonating Don Bosco in white cassock surprised all by narrating the famous dream at age 9, with his assurance of love and blessings for all.

This is one of the events leading up to the Bi-centinary of Don Bosco's birth, and forms part of the multi-pronged celebration along with a Bosco Exhibition and Quiz that have already taken place, and the Bosco Talent Hunt, Bosco Rally and other such events coming up very soon.

The past pupils' association at Don Bosco Kalyani cooperates in the well running of various activities of the House with their contribution, voluntary services and talents. Through their involvement they build leadership qualities in themselves, work in teams, and develop a sense of solidarity with the rest, especially children who are most in need.

In the name of Don Bosco, and with the collaboration of the Past Pupils, the DBYA Centre serves the neighborhood through various educational activities and soft skill programs, like Spoken English, Computer study, Music, Youth Animation, Games and Sports, as well as a regular Oratory.
