Drum Ensemble 2013 In Don Bosco Mendal

Guwahati, Jul. 28. A Drum Ensemble 2013, where 472 drummers came together for the first ever event in the district, was organized in Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mendal, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India on 19th July, 2013

A historic Drum Ensemble 2013 for peace and prosperity was organized in Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Mendal, North Garo Hills, Meghalaya, India on 19th July, 2013. 472 drummers came together for this first ever event of the type in the district. The festival also coincided with the Inauguration of Commerce Stream and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Study Centre in the School and felicitation of successful HSSLC and SSLC students of the schools.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary, Brigady N Marak lauded the institution for organizing the four-fold function in a big way. He was proud that the school has a Commerce Stream and a IGNOU Study Centre. The locally excellent available opportunities must be taken full advantage of, he added. He was full of praise for the institution for providing all-round education to the people of the area.

Also participating in the celebration as guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner, North Garo Hills, W. Khyllep, IAS congratulated the Principal, staff and students for the excellent SSLC and HSSLC results year after year. This year' results (SSLC over 97% and HSSLC 95% with 25 star marks, and 17 first divisions) is one of the best in the whole district, he declared. He expressed his gratitude to the school for opening Commerce Stream because not a single institution in his district offers Commerce at the higher secondary level, adding that IGNOU would be of great help to in-service teachers and employees. The DC also conveyed the message of hard work as key to success.

Fr. Vice-Provincial, Guwahati Province, Thomas Lakra in his brief message said that the school has made giant leap by bringing additional courses for students of the area. Dwelling on the education scenario in the North East, he observed that both formal and non-formal education were much needed.

Earlier Fr. Albert Thyrniang, Principal and Zacharias Marak, local leader also spoke on the occasion.
