Don Bosco Communications South Asia Exec Meeting held in Kolkata By Fr. Antony EJKolkata, Jun. 29. Don Bosco Communications South Asia (DBCSA) Executive Council met for its council meeting on 25-26 June at Nitika Don Bosco, Kolkata. There were 10 members present comprising of 8 Provincial Delegates for Social Communication, Fr. Antony Earathara - the South Asian Delegate for Social Communications and Fr. Thomas Ellicherail - the Provincial In-charge of Social Communications at the SPCSA level.
During the meeting Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, spoke to the members about how Social Communications needs to be seen from a Salesian perspective in all of the ministries of the Congregation. He also pointed out that it is not enough for us to treat Media as ''personal Media, but they must become Pastoral media''. He asked the members to take the challenge of net-working together seriously and to make an impact as a regional body.
The Provincial delegates presented their Reports from 2011 to 2013 from their respective Provinces, enumerating the activities and projects undertaken and the mode of functioning of the Provincial Commissions for Social Communications. It was also an occasion for the majority of the executive council members who are relatively new to this leadership role in their own Provinces to share and learn from from each other about the Social Communications sector of the Salesian Ministry.
The Executive Council also went through the Statutes of the SPCSA with regard to Don Bosco Communications South Asia, approved in 2001, and the policies of Don Bosco Information Service (BIS), to suggest to the Provincial Conference Board for some ammendments that were deemed essential for a more appropriate functioning.
Among the projects and plans for the coming years, especially in view of the bi-centenary of Don Bosco's birth, there is a plan to revive a project for the production of a mega movie on Don Bosco in the Indian context. The plan will be studied by a selected group of experts for eventual implementation, if found feasible.
The DBCSA will also undertake a data collection of Salesian Publications and Publishing authors in the South Asian region to be made available online through its website. A Salesian publication catalogue will also be brought out by October 2013 in order to make known the vast collection of Salesian materials available today in different media formats in the SA region, as well as to engender a Salesian brand.
There is also a plan to promote within the next two years among Salesians and Salesian youth in the region, as ''pro-sumers'', the production of Salesian Apps for today's online needs. The DBCSA will also take initiatives to produce animation materials for reflection and animation on the Rector Major's Strenna for 2014.
The Executive Council also decided to have the forthcoming General Assembly at Kochi on the theme ''New Media and Salesian Youth Ministry'' from 15 -18 October. The Meeting is expected to be participated by all the Provincial Delegates for Social Communications and other confreres who are engaged in the ministry of Social Communications in the SA region in different capacities.
Some members of the other Salesian families are also expected to be invited to take part in that meeting which will have among other things a study day on the selected theme and animation by Fr. Filiberto Gonzales, the Salesian General Councillor for Social Communications.
