'Preventive System: A 'Right' Approach For India' - Proposes Baptist SDB By Christy AntonyKolkata, Jun. 24. (UPS-Rome) Fr. John Baptist SDB, belonging to the province of Tiruchy, successfully defended his thesis for Licentiate in Spiritual Theology with a Specialisation in Salesian Spirituality, on 24th June, 2013 at Salesian Pontifical University, Rome. The Thesis titled, ''The Relevance of Salesian Preventive System for Human Rights Approach to Education in Today's India'' was guided by Prof. Aldo Giraudo SDB and Prof. Sahayadas Fernando SDB.
In an hour long discussion on the thesis moderated by Prof. Cosimo Semeraro sdb, Fr. Baptist had an ample opportunity to present the highlights of his research and underline its relevance to the ongoing educative mission in India.
Pointing out the unremitting interest in the research shown by the candidate, the Guide Prof. Giraudo affirmed that the work was ''interesting, important and immensely relevant.'' He reiterated the need to deepen the study in the same direction for a more effective educative ministry in Indian context.
Adding accolades to the work, the secondary guide Prof. Sahayadas described the work as ''well articulated and a timely attempt.'' He observed that the work can be very well considered a fitting ''response to the challenge of the Rector Major to India, to reinterpret the Salesian Educative System, for the Indian Situation.''
Proving in clear and convinced terms that the Salesian Educative System best suits the Rights perspective that India has adopted of late, Fr. Baptist reinterpreted the 'good Christians and honest citizens' of Don Bosco and his times as, 'Spiritual Persons and Responsible Citizens', calling to mind the great contribution that reason, religion and loving kindness can make towards creating a holistic system of education in India.
As observed by the examiners, this work proves a wonderful point of departure for the Salesian India to evolve a more right based educative project that would clearly reflect the 'mind of Don Bosco' today.
