Guwahati, May. 22. The Confreres of Guwahati province celebrated the 95th birthday of their great veteran pioneer Salesian missionary Fr. Porcu Mario in the Provincial House, Guwahati on 21st May, 2013. Fr. Mario Porcu has lived 73 glorious years in India as an exemplary and hard working Salesian, having come to this country in 1940, and has contributed a lot to the province during these years. The celebration was also an occassion for the inauguration of the ''Pinardi House'' and ''Don Mario Hall'' at the Provincial House campus, at which Fr. Mario himself officiated.

All the confreres and Sisters who had come to felicitate Fr. Mario gathered in front of the PINARDI House at 5.00 PM and Fr. V.M.Thomas, the Provincial, introduced the purpose of the coming together. Pinardi House is where elderly and sick confreres of the Province are going to be taken care of, and Don Mario Hall is a multipurpose Hall which has been dedicated to Fr. Mario on this joyous occasion in appreciation of his contribution to the Salesian work in the North East.

As Fr. Mario blessed the Pinardi House he invoked the blessings of God and prayed that we not only contribute for the growth of the mission by way of physical work but also in a spiritual way through prayers as we rest here.

After the Pinardi House was blessed the second part of the ceremony took place on the the 2nd floor where the Don Mario Hall is situated. Before the blessing Fr. T.O. Jose, Parish priest of St. Joseph co-cathedral Church, Guwahati, prayed for Fr. Mario and for the province that all may be able to work with dedication and missionary zeal for the Kingdom of God. Then Fr. Mario cut the ribbon and inaugurated the Don Mario Hall, after which a cake was also cut in celebration.

As Fr. Mario was blessing the Don Mario Hall, he recalled to mind what Don Bosco said, ''Greater things could have been done if we had more faith'', and he commented saying that all of us must contribute to the community by way of our faith as well. And he added saying, ''We are happy to have this beautiful hall because all of us have contributed in one way or the other. Let us thank the Lord for the great blessings showered upon our Province and on each one of us.''

There was a large number of Salesian priests, Brothers, FMA Sisters and MSMHC Sisters around Fr. Mario to celebrate his 95th birthday, and its memory has been sealed with the twin inauguration for the Province.
