Mumbai, May. 20. A training Programme for 65 parishioners aspiring to join the Lectors' Ministry was held on 18 May 2013 at St Therese of the Child Jesus Church in the North Arabian Vicariate. The Programme was aptly titled ''Readers of the Word of God'' and was aimed at imparting skills for proclaiming the Word of God during Liturgical celebrations.

Of the two sessions, the first consisted of reading Skills and a the second provided spiritual orientation. The training sessions was conducted by Christopher Pereira with support from Rosario Fernandes.

The skill session focused on the impact of preparing and practicing well, voice clarity, positioning of the microphone, positioning of the reader, usage of eye contact, speed, volume, tone, intonation, emphasis, emotions, correct pronunciation and  confidence when reading. Great emphasis was placed on ''Preparation and Practice''.

''What really struck me was Rosario's statement  'we are not just merely reading from the Bible, we are proclaiming the word of God and if we keep that in mind, all else will follow' '', said one participant.

The Lectors-in-training had also practical sessions in small groups with peer feedback, and demos in the larger group.
''This was a great learning exercise for us as we could observe others and become aware of some of our own shortcomings. It also helped us overcome stage-fright in a smaller group'', said another participant.

This time's training programe was special as it was attended by the Konkani and the Malayalam Music and Liturgical ministry members apart from the regular English speaking congregation.
