Panjim, Feb. 27. Two Salesian clerics of the Konkan Province were ordained deacons on 23 February at the Sacred Heart parish, Yervada by Rt. Rev. Thomas Dabre.

On 23rd February 2013 Sacred Heart Parish, Yervada, Pune witnessed the Diaconal ordination of six Salesian clerics by His Grace, Thomas Dabre.  Of these six Clerics Dn. Joel D'Souza and Dn. Jonathan Ribeiro belonged to the Province of Panjim.

At the meaningful service held in Yervada Parish, at which Salesians, parishioners and some youth were present, Bp. Thomas impressed upon the minds of the faithful, the radical nature of the commitment these young men were making to be 'humble servants' of God's people, in a world where everyone looks for status, power, and wealth as a means to self-realization.  Only a lively faith, in imitation of Jesus' self-emptying, can give meaning to such a profound gesture, he affirmed.

The parents and siblings of both the deacons were present amidst the worshipping community. The Provincial and the Vice Provincials of Panjim and Mumbai Provinces were also concelebrating with the Bishop.

Later in the evening at the Grace before the fellowship meal held at the Don Bosco Youth Centre, Koregaon Park,  Rev. Fr. Ian Figueiredo, the Provincial of Panjim, expressed his joy at the gift of the two deacons and also availed of the opportunity to thank the Provincial of Mumbai Province and the local House council for preparing the young deacons to take this solemn and faith-filled step in their lives.
