Panjim, Feb. 20. The third day of the Panjim Province Provincial Chapter was marked by the a healthy discussion about lay collaboration, one of the primary issues the Province sought to resolve and focus upon in the present chapter.

The fifth commission presented the issue of Lay Collaboration in the province. The nine page document was lengthy in its presentation with a lot of historical references, and a summary of GC24 that discussed and introduced in a powerful way Lay Collaboration in the Society.

While many felt the document was quite theoretical, a healthy discussion took place on how we perceive lay collaboration in our province and what are the challenges we need to face in such interactions.

In the present age, with a lot of professionalism setting in different forms of our works, we need the support of the laity. The laity need to be carefully selected and trained to understand the salesian system and be focused to achieve the salesian mission.

Lay collaboration is a delicate yet necessary in present times, especially when it comes to expertise with respect to legal matters, finances, and professional issues.

The chapter as a matter of priority, decided to select a few houses which have a strong presence over the years to begin forming the EPC and start training sessions. The provincial community on the other hand will study different forms of lay collaboration and assist the communities in training the EPCs formed.

The afternoon session focused on a few changes in the Province Directory where the norms that needed modification or insertion were discussed and subsequently formulated.

The evening session began at 6.30pm with the process of voting on the first three themes. After each section was analysed and voted, each line of action was voted up.

The Provincial Chapter is due to end tomorrow (21st Feb), and  it will elect a representative for the General Chapter.
