Guwahati, Feb. 20. The 18th Provicial chapter of Guwahati Province  was inaugurated on 19th February, 2013 at Don Bosco Institute, Joypur, Kharguli, Guwahati. There were many salesian family members who had come for the inauguration function and shared their messages.
After the constitution of the new Province of Silchar, this is also the 1 st Provincial Chapter of the new Guwahati Province. Fr. Porku Mario, 94 year old veteran Salesian Moissionary in his keynote address, invited every chapter member to go back to the  time of Don Bosco in order to imbibe his spirit and charism and to become other ''Don Boscos'' in our time. He exhorted everyone to love the young ardently.

Reprentatives of Salesian Family joined in the inaugural function and gave their messages.  Speaking of the significance and relevance of the chapter theme  ''witnesses to the radical approach of the gospel'', the representatives of the salesian family reminded the chapter members to keep alive the vitality of the congregation by becoming passionate lovers of Christ and the young. It is a challenge to be living witnesses. ''Witnesses to the radical approach of the gospel'' is a wonderful way of venturing into our own charism and future institutional events in an innovative manner.

The chapter theme focuses on four areas.
1. Living the grace of unity and the joy of Salesian vocation as a gift from God and a personal project of life.
2. Becoming seekers of God and spirit filled persons.
3. Building communities of fraternity
4. Generous commitment to the mission, journeying with the young to give hope to the world.

Archbishop Thomas Menamparambil in his homily reminded all that the chapter itself is a holy moment and a mystic experience. In Don Bosco there was a perfect blending of action and contemplation. There is a need to look beyond and get in touch with god. He highlited the following different dimensions of mysticism:

1. Mysticism of work
2. Mysticism of relationship
3. Mysticism of encounter
4. Mysticism of prayer
5. Mysticism of pain and suffering
6. Mysticism of brief moment.

Fr. V.M.Thomas the provincial presented the detailed report on the state of the province of Guwahati. The afternoon sessions were discussion and sharing in 6 commissions.
