Don Bosoco's Feast celebrated with Friends of Don Bosco in Guwahati

Guwahati, Feb. 3. The Province of Guwahati Celebrated the feast of our Father and Founder St. John Bosco in a novel way at the Salesian Provincial House in Guwahati on 31st January, 2013. The ability of the Provincial Fr. V. M. Thomas, SDB to 'think broad' makes the celebration of the feast of Don Bosco at the Salesian Provincial House in Guwahati an unique event.

The evening began with the arrival of the dignitaries including Chief Justice Dr. M. K. Sharma, Retd. Judge of the Supreme Court of India, Mr. Shantikam Hazarika, Chairman of Secondary Board of Education, Assam, Fr. Mavely, Vice-Chancellor Don Bosco University, Vice-Chancellor of Cotton College University, Director General of Police, Ex. DGP,

Fr. V.M.Thomas, led the dignitaries in lighting the lamp and paying floral homage to the relic of Don Bosco,  in the 'mini paradise' in front of the Provincial House. Earlier welcoming the guests the Vice-Provincial, Fr. Thomas Lakra, sdb, conveyed to the dignitaries the happiness of the Salesians for their esteemed presence.

Paying rich tributes to the contributions of the salesians towards the development of education in the North East, Chief Justice Sharma, who passed his matriculation examinations as a student of don Bosco High school, Guwahati in 1962, and later worked for a short period as a volunteer teacher in his alma mater, recalled the days he spent in school. Declaring that he was proud to be a Bosconian he said 'once a Bosconian, forever a Bosconian', before he cut the festive cake to mark the occasion, which was followed by a tea party accompanied and Nostalgic conversations.

A solemn Thanksgiving Sacrifice was officiated in the co-cathedral by the provincial, flanked by vice- provincial of the Province of Belgium, and Fr. Thomas Lakra, sdb Vice Provincial Guwahati province and 28 other priests who included the Provincials superiors of other Religious Congregations. A large number of sisters including the Superior general of the MSMHC, and the provincial superiors of women religious congregations were participants at the Eucharist.

The Holy Eucharist was followed by the blessing of the statue of Jesus in the company of  children in the newly renovated court yard of the co-cathedral. The evening came to an end after a sumptuous dinner. Viva Don Bosco!!! Viva Guwahati Province!!!!
