5000 Young People Greet Rector Major at Don Bosco, Liluah

Kolkata, Nov. 5. Don Bosco, Liluah warmly welcomed Fr. Pascual Chavez on his arrival from Mirpara at 4.30 PM on 5th November, 2013. The Rector Major was accompanied by his Vicar Fr. Adriano Bregolin, Fr. Juan J. Bartolome his Secretary, Fr. Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor for Asia, Kolkata Provincial Fr. Thomas Ellicherail and Mumbai Provincial Fr. Godfrey D'Souza. They were ushered into the house from the school gate with an Adivasi dance by the parishioners.
The Holy Eucharist began at 5.00 PM with a Santhali Dance troupe leading the celebrants to the altar. Fr. Thomas Ellicherail welcomed the Rector Major into the Province in the name of all the confreres.  ''Fr. Chavez is a man of profound Biblical Knowledge with Latin American sensitivity'', commented Fr. Thomas while giving his bio-data.Fr. Chavez responded saying  that he feels very much loved by Indians and he looks more like an Indian than a Mexican.

In his homily Fr. Pascual highlighted these points: Salesians are called to be good shepherds of today; the young people are at the centre of our Mission; Salesians bring the young closer to Jesus through the Gospel - the good news.

After the Eucharist there was a felicitation programme during which cultural dances were staged. Talking to the young Fr. Pascual affirmed that today the Salesian Congregation has an Indian face. He then shared his vocation story. In his message to the youth he exhorted them to leave their foot prints so that others may walk on them, and to be like the Salome fish that always swim against the current. He reminded them also that if they want to look at the sun they need to greet the rays first.

The felicitation programme ended with the Bengali song ''Don Bosco - Jubokero Bondhu'' (Don Bosco Friend of the Young.

Fr. Biji Thomas, Rector of Don Bosco Liluah, proposed the vote of thanks saying how grateful they were for his presence at Don Bosco, Liluah as they just concluded the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. He also thanked the other dignitaries and all the participants, particularly the youngsters, who came from various presences in the Province.

Fireworks lighted up the sky as the clock struck 8.30 PM. The youngsters were so happy that they continued dancing for a very long time. Dinner was served for all. The Salesian community at Liluah together with the Past Pupils numbering two hundred did a very commendable job of hosting the entire programme.

The youngsters cheered to the comments of the Rector Major when he wished them goodbye saying that he has 5000 twitter followers and will meet them on Facebook.
