Delhi Salesian Youth Expo a Cultural Fiesta

By Joaquim Fernandes, sdb
Mumbai, Sep. 29. The Youth Expo 2015 underway from 29-30 September at Don Bosco School Alaknanda witnessed a mammoth gathering of over 1250 youngsters from 11 provinces across the country. The bicentenary celebration in honour of Don Bosco resembled a sea of colourful gaiety.
Archbishop Anil Couto of Delhi presided at the Eucharist in the morning, enriched with a heavenly choir comprising boys and teachers of Don Bosco School Alakananda. Soon after was the inauguration with Frances Ngajokpa, Minister from Manipur as Chief Guest. Ngajokpa spoke of Don Bosco's work in the country and also reflected Bosconian generosity with an announcement of a donation of Rs. 1 lakh. The Youth Expo was then declared open by Fr Jose Mathew, Provincial of New Delhi & Convenor of the event.
A youth talk show that reflected on the challenges and issues faced by youngsters today broke up to the Bosco Fiesta - multi talent show with mime, music, rangoli and canvas painting competitions. Renowned artists, theatre personalities and musicians judged the event. The mime saw great performances from all provinces with Tiruchy, Chennai and Panjim emerging winners. The rangoli themed 'my Don Bosco was won by the youth from Delhi. The canvas painting contest with 'Youth for Change' as the theme saw the youth of Delhi emerge winners, followed by the Panjim and the Kolkatta youth second and third respectively. The music contest had bands performing various fusion renditions. Hyderabad dazzled with percussion, Chennai was harmonious perfection, while Delhi thundered with an original composition 'Celebrating Differences in rock and roll and fusion'.
Tea was a moment to interact, mingle & ready oneself for the welcoming of the Rector Major and the Bosco Utsav. Excitement, radiating cheer and enthralling performances mingled with a serious reflective session set the mood for the night to follow!
