Mumbai, Aug. 28. The diocese of Vasai organized a catechetical seminar for the catechism teachers of the diocese at Don Bosco Naigaon East, on 24 August. The half day seminar was held under the able guidance of Fr Caesar Dabre. It was a practical hands-on training programme to help the catechists to be oriented towards helping children to grow in faith.
The seminar was aimed primarily at giving inputs on how to impart Faith Formation. The first session was focused on reviving the spirit of the catechists. The animator based his session on Jesus' life and teachings, and elaborated on the theme of Faith and life with the help of creative and reflective videos, with assistance from Fr Orville Coutinho SDB.

Fr Orville acknowledged and appreciated the teachers' service and sacrifice in training and forming young children and the youth in Faith. After the first session, Catechism teachers Miss Priscilla Pereira, Miss Velanie Pereira and Mr. Anthony Dias of Naigaon East, facilitated a session of teachers' interaction.

Fr Prashant Saldanha belonging to the diocese of Vasai animated the third session in which he elaborated on some key concepts the catechists ought to take into account in catechizing children. He spoke also on the concept of teacher/acharya/guru, and exhorted the catechists to pass on the baton of Faith especially through Faith and Sacraments. The session concluded with Fr Dabre exhorting the Catechists to be present for sacramental celebrations with the children as a sign of belongingness to the One Church.

The positive impact of the seminar on the participants was their getting a greater understanding of and appreciation for the teachings of the Church given in Sacred Scripture and Apostolic Tradition, which are very comprehensively presented in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

The participants expressed satisfaction that the purpose of this seminar was achieved as it helped them to appreciate the significance of entering into a fuller, living and loving relationship with Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. One of the participants said that ''It was a seminar that helped raise one's awareness of christian discipleship and the call to service rooted in love.''
