Guwahati, Dec. 3. Guwahati Salesian Fr M.C. George, a legendary man of multifarious talent was elected to the post of Secretary of Don Bosco Schools in India by a popular vote at the recent national meet of Don Bosco School principals held in Mumbai. He will assume office in January 2015 with hands-on-experience gleaned from 25 years of experience as principal of prestigious schools in Assam and Tripura.
The Salesian India apex body SPCSA (Salesian Provincials Conference of South Asia) endorsed the election of Fr George to the task of Coordination and animation of Don Bosco schools in India.

Currently principal of Don Bosco Sashipur on the Indo-Bhutan border Fr George says, ''it is imperative that we give due importance to our traditional and age old school ministry.''

''It is true that in higher education in our colleges and universities, we can give attention to the individual person, but in a school situation we reach out to the entire family as we care for children.''

Some 85 per cent of 300 plus Don Bosco High and Higher Secondary Schools are co-educational, except for those started in the early years especially in the metro cities.
Fr George says, ''we will introduce programs to empower the girl child through quality education that will in turn and in years to come transform Indian families.''

Former principal of Don Bosco School, Guwahati and Don Bosco School, Agartala Fr George is acclaimed an eminent educationist and an able school administrator.

President Dr Abdul J. Kalam conferred on Fr George the award for ''Outstanding School Principal of India,'' in 2007.
Fr George has not shied away from engaging in the national, educational and cultural scene when he served as the National Chairperson of SPICMACAY, a national Youth movement for Indian culture and heritage.

National Educational Conference of Don Bosco Schools (NECDBS) 2014 held last month at Don Bosco International School Matunga, Mumbai had 142 principals and delegates from all over India.

The newly elected secretary has agreed to host NECDBS 2016 in Guwahati.
