Tiruchy, Jun. 29. June 29th is always a special day for Jnanodaya Salesian College, Yercaud, as it marks the Pope's day seminar, one of the annual events of the college. This year the seminar was on ''Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life: A Christian Reflection on the New Age'', a document published by the Pontifical Council for Culture and Inter-religious Dialogue.
The seminar commenced at 9.00 a.m. Fr. AmalrajSusai, SDB, the Rector of the Retreat, welcoming the gathering exhorted everyone to be open to dialogue. Fr. Lourdusamy, SDB, initiated the seminar by presenting a bird's eye view of the document. The document was divided into six parts and presented by six second year students of philosophy.

Bro. Antony Dinesh, SDB, the first speaker of the seminar, explained the relevance of the discussion on New Age, the role of media in the growth of New Age and its cultural background. He was followed by Bro. Gabriel Evanmi, SDB who elaborated the theme 'New Age Spirituality,' and brought to light some of the attractive elements of the New Age. The third speaker, Bro. Nithiyan, SDB, presented the fundamentals of New Age and the factors that enhance the making of it. Bro. Benjamin, SDB then dealt with the outlook of the New Age movements towards God, World, and Man. Bro. Felix, SDB, the fifth speaker of the day, contrasted New Age Spirituality with Catholic Faith and Spirituality. Bro. Dhason, SDB, concluded the presentation of the document by presenting Jesus as the Water of Life and pointed out that most of the teachings of the New Age movements are incompatible with the teachings of Christ.

After the presentation of the document, the participants were divided into six groups for group discussions. This too contributed to the understanding of New Age and the stance of the Catholic Faith towards it. Fr. Jayaseelan, SDB, the Dean and Principal of the College, concluded the seminar with his words of gratitude.
