Shillong, May. 26. On the day when most of the Salesian priests and brothers in India made their commitment as professed members of the Salesians of Don Bosco, nine young Salesians committed themselves forever to be the 'signs and bearers of God's love for the young.' The perpetual profession of the 9 Brothers took place at the Divine Saviour Parish, Nongthymmai on the evening of the 24th May: 7 for Silchar, 1 for Guwahati and 1 for Hyderabad provinces.
Surrounded by confreres, parents, and other dear ones, prostrating before the altar the brothers surrendered themselves to God to live forever obedient, poor and chaste according to the way of the Gospel set out in the Salesian Constitutions. In the presence of Rev Fr. George Maliekal SDB, the provincial of the Salesian Province of Silchar, who takes the place of the Rector Major of the Society of St. Francis De Sales the nine enthusiastic members ofthe Salesian congregation, pledged their commitment to God, to the Congregation and to the service of the Kingdom of God.

During the homily the provincial recalled the advice of Mama Margaret, the mother of Don Bosco,  ''When you were born, I consecrated you to the Blessed Virgin; when you began your studies I told you to be devoted to our heavenly Mother, now I ask you to be hers entirely.'' Fr. George asked them to surrender themselves to the Blessed Mother and asked her for the grace to be able to say 'yes' always to the divine call. Living a chaste, poor and obedient life is the need of the hour. ''For the one who has surrendered himself entirely and completely to the Lord, the grace of God will flow abundantly on him'', Fr. Maliekal said.

The perpetually professed members thanked the provincial, the council members, the confreres, parents etc., for the guidance rendered in their journey towards final commitment. A special mention was made of the Parish Priest of Nongthymmai Parish, Rev Fr. Edmund Gomes SDB, for accepting the proposal to have the perpetual profession in the parish.
