Kolkata, Mar. 18. A Requiem Mass was celebrated at 7 AM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Provincial House, Kolkata in memory of Br. Isaac Puthumana who passed away on March 13, 2013 in New Delhi. Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, Provincial, presided over the Eucharist during which he spoke about the life and outstanding contributions of Br. Isaac to the Province of Kolkata.
''Br. Isaac lived and worked most of his life in the Province of Kolkata from 1952 to 1995, a period of 43 years.  He carried out his ministry as Bursar, building construction Supervisor and Provincial Economer, during the long span of years.  Most of the major buildings in the two Provinces bear testimony to the dedication and commitment of Br. Isaac.  Through his competence and devotion to the Congregation he saved crores of rupees from being lost or wasted.  He had a rare skill of dealing with his workers who were loyal to him, wherever they went with him as a team.  Such a task demanded from him untiring physical and mental energy and a great responsibility.

While handling huge amount of money and material resources of the Congregation, he proved himself scrupulously faithful to the Congregation, at the same time maintaining high standards of spiritual life of prayer and community living.  He was a model Salesian Brother, joyfully living his Salesian life displaying also a good sense of humour. He aged gracefully without complaining about his physical infirmities and continued to serve the community being a house bursar, till the last days of his life.''

The funeral of Br. Isaac was held at Provincial House, Okhla on 15th March, 2013. Rt. Rev. Vincent Concessao the Archbishop of New Delhi presided over the Eucharist assisted by Rt. Rev. Barnabas Bishop in charge of the Malankara Christians of North India. Fr. MC Joseph, Provincial Economer, was present on behalf of Kolkata Province at the funeral and offered condolences to the Provincial and to the Confreres of New Delhi Province.
