New Library Block Inaugurated And Blessed At Don Bosco, Park Circus

Kolkata, Feb. 1. There was augmentation of joy and happiness at Don Bosco School, Park Circus(DBPC), Kolkata on January 31, 2013 on the feast of St. John Bosco as the staff, students, parents and guests gathered together for the inauguration and blessing of the new library block.  Mr. Arnab Roy IAS, Secretary School Education, Government of West Bengal inaugurated the block and Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, SDB Provincial blessed the building and the facilities. The function was preceded by a Mass celebrated in the school auditorium for which the Catholic students and teachers including 20 ex-teachers took part. Later in the evening, there was a gathering of the clergy and religious of Calcutta Diocese,belonging to the city area.
The function at the new block began as the students along with the teachers,parents, past pupils, friends and well-wishers gathered on the grounds at 11.00 AM.  As the dignitaries arrived they were felicitated with shawls and bouquets.  Introducing the function the commentator said, ''We, as an educative community have been abundantly blessed and we have the assurance of continued grace and bounty of the Lord for which we are truly thankful.''

At the inaugural address Fr. Siby Vadakel Rector and Principal welcomed the dignitaries and everyone to the function. While thanking various persons connected with the project he said, ''On this day, there is one person whom we should remember in a very special manner - Fr. TV Jacob, the former principal who originally envisioned the extension to this building. The concept is his brainchild which we adapted over time.'' Commenting on the outcome of the project, Fr. Siby responded to an earlier query by a parent ''we will get better prepared students and citizens which is all that we seek.'' He advised the students to remember thousands of less fortunate ones,while they enjoy the new facilities.

Thereafter, Mr. Arnab Roy inaugurated the new block by cutting the ceremonial ribbon. The prayer service prepared by Fr. VT Jose the Vice-Principal began with the school choir singing ''Welcome Holy Spirit...'' They continued singing prayerful songs while Fr. Provincial assisted by Fr. Siby blessed the Physics Lab, Chemistry Lab, Biology Lab, the Library and the Class Rooms.Mr. Arnab commented about the quality education that is provided in Don Bosco Schools and the facilities which are offered to enhance the full development of the personality of students. The programme came to an end with the opening of the Art Exhibition prepared by the primary school students.

Prior to the function, at 8.00 AM there was a solemn Eucharist for the Catholics presided over by Fr. Provincial in which there were around 700 participants. One of the ex-teachers on condition of anonymity said, ''It gives me great joy to be back in the premises of DBPC where I taught, walked up and down the veranda many years.  The homily which Fr. Provincial delivered on the life of Don Bosco in simple style was so inspiring.''After the Eucharist, Fr. KA Raphael the Bursar and his team served breakfast to all.

In the evening at 6.30 PM there was a gathering in the conference hall of the school, where Fr. Anil Toppo the provincial secretary conducted a prayer service, which was appreciated by everyone. Thereafter, Fr. Johny Nedungatt introduced a book entitled Psycho-sexual Integration and Ceilibate Maturity recently published by the Salesian Psychological Association of India& South Asian Formation Commission. At dinner time Fr. Provincial addressed around 170 Clergy and Religious of the Diocese of Calcutta thanking them for the support given to the Salesians in numerous ways.

The Salesian community at DBPC did a commendable job hosting and coordinating the day's events meaningfully and beautifully.
