South Asian Provincials Meet the Rector Major in Kolkata

Kolkata, Nov. 6. Salesian Provincials of South Asia began their meeting with Fr. Pascual Chavez, the Rector Major, at 9.00 AM on 6th November, 2013 at Salesian Provincial House, Kolkata.  Fr. Chavez chaired the meeting in which Fr. Adriano Bregolin, the Vicar of the Rector Major, Fr. Maria Arokiam, the Regional Councillor for South Asia, Fr. Juan J. Bartolome, Secretary to the Rector Major and eleven Provincial Superiors of South Asia Region were present.

Fr. Thomas Ellicherail, the hosting Provincial, welcomed everyone to Provincial House, Kolkata and wished them a pleasant stay.  Fr. Maria Arokiam greeted everyone and thanked each one for their presence.  The Provincial of the  of Vice Province of Sri Lanka could not be present due to visa problems.

The meeting began with the blessing of the Foundation Stone of Don Bosco Human Resources Centre, Gurgaon. The Rector Major blessed the Foundation Stone with a short prayer service.  Fr. Noel Maddhichetty, Secretary to Salesian Provincial Conference of South Asia (SPCSA) was present.

There ensued a book release of the English translation of Testmoni del Dio Vivente (Witnesses of the Living God), written by Fr. Pascual Chavez who is also a former President of the Union of Superiors General of Religious Congregations,  and published by Kristu Jyoti Publications, Bangalore.  Fr. Thomas Anchukandom, the Provincial of Bangalore Province, introducing the book said, ''This publication is a gesture of love to the Rector Major from the Region, for all that he had been to us in these past years.''

The meeting is scheduled to end at 4 PM, after which the Rector Major will go to Don Bosco School, Park Circus to interact with the evening school students.  This will be followed by a meeting with the Salesians of South Bengal and later at 9.30 PM there will be a meeting with the Provincial Council of the hosting Province.
