New Delhi, Mar. 22. The sixth annual assembly of the Southern Zonal Conference of the Association of Salesian Cooperators was held at the Don Bosco Provincial House, Hyderabad, on 20 March. The twenty-five participants included the World Councillor Mr K. V. Francis, the national delegates Fr K J. Louis SDB and Sr Phyllis Fernandes FMA, and the leaders of the Cooperators from the six provinces of the zone, namely, Mumbai, Panjim, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Tiruchy.
After the minutes of the previous year's assembly held in Mumbai were read and passed, the six provinces presented the reports of their activities. The World Councillor complimented the provinces for the good work being done and urged them to focus on apostolic initiatives that answer the real needs of people.

Fr Louis, the national delegate and an authority on all matters concerning the Cooperators, briefly explained the characteristic traits of the Salesian Family and the basic elements of the common spirit. He noted that, as committed Christians and leaders, all Cooperators should be well versed in church matters and well-informed on current issues affecting the Church and the Christian community.

In the afternoon, Sr Phyllis Fernandes elaborated on the Common Mission Statement of the Salesian Family through a PowerPoint presentation. She dealt with the role of the Salesian Family in the Church and in the cultural context of today. Highlighting the frailty of the Family in today's society, she invited the Cooperators to focus attention on family apostolate.

Mr A. B. Bosco, councillor in charge of formation, highlighted the crucial role of formation in the life of a Cooperator. He pointed out that in the first place the Cooperators themselves are responsible for their own personal, Christian, Salesian and professional formation. He also noted that just as Don Bosco formed himself at the school of Fr Cafasso, the Cooperators too need to be schooled in Salesian life and spirituality under the guidance of others who are able to guide them.

The world councillor Mr Francis briefed the assembly on some of the important upcoming events the meeting of the World Council on 8-11 December 2011 in Rome and the World Congress in November 2012 in Rome during which the text of the Project of Apostolic Life (PAL), which is presently under revision, will be finalized. He noted that anyone wanting to propose modifications to any article in the PAL  should send them on the prescribed form to Rome at the earliest.

Ms Frieda D'Souza, Southern Regional Coordinator, briefed the house on the decisions of the National Advisory Council that met in New Delhi on 7 November 2010.

Mr Wilfred Rebello presented the statement of accounts of the Regional Conference. The meeting came to a close with the vote of thanks by Mr Jerome D'Souza. Fr Showrilu, the provincial delegate of Hyderabad, and his team did a splendid job in organizing the event.
