Don Bosco bicentenary celebration tomorrow By Saikh Md Sabah Al AhmedGuwahati, Aug. 14. A year- long celebration to commemorate the bicentenary of Saint John Bosco, the great 19th century Italian priest and a friend of youth will be organised by Don Bosco Society, Guwahati. The celebration will kick off with a programme on August 15.
On the occasion of Independence Day, Child Friendly Guwahati (CFG) under the aegis of Don Bosco Society in collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Guwahati, Lions Clubs of Guwahati, besides various like minded NGOs and Government departments will organise a day-long function on August 15. The program will start at 8:30 am and will have 1500 CFG kids and another 500 youth as participants.
The day will mark the beginning of the Don Bosco bicentenary celebration.
On August 16, the programme will commence with the hoisting of the jubilee flags in all Salesian (SDBs) communities /schools at 9 am. It will be followed by a dedication of the Don Bosco church at Sashipur and the inauguration of the Socio Pastoral Institute at Tezpur.
In keeping with tradition, the year-long programme will encompass various recreational, cultural and academic activities. In the month of September, Youth Mass will be organised and during October community level exhibition on Don Bosco will be held. November will be the month of seminars and painting competitions for talented artists from Don Bosco School, Guwahati, while December will be dotted with feasts, Mass and evening Prayer.
On January 30, 2015, the Feast of St. John Bosco will be held with Don Bosco cultural yatra, paving way for a colourful celebration. The rest of the year will see the various events for each month such as Inter college-Inter school quiz competition, Don Bosco Talent hunt, Regional level musical drama, various feasts and Don Bosco Alumni Meet.
The celebration will reach its full glory with Don Bosco mega youth Fest grand finale, which will be held on August 14 and 15, 2015, at Don Bosco School Panbazar. The feast will showcase extempore competition, painting/collage competition and much more. The festival will also have a melodious music extravaganza performed by a German band.
On August 16, 2015, the year long festival will mark its culmination on the eve of the bicentenary birth anniversary of Saint John Bosco. The celebration will conclude with a tribute to the educationist.
On the eve of Don Bosco Bicentenary celebrations, a list of grand plans has been lined up. Few of these plans involve inauguration of the first cluster of Don Bosco University building and a spirituality center at Tapesia, releasing a book on Don Bosco's contribution to North-East, Multi-City Film Festival on Don Bosco at Guwahati and the foundation for a modern technical Institute at Maligaon.
The year will be one which not only brings the youth together for celebration, but it will be a road map for the advancement of their future.
