CRI Gears up for National Assembly, Golden Jubilee

Guwahati, Aug. 5. The Conference of Religious India (CRI) is scheduled to hold its national assembly and golden jubilee celebrations, 7-9 November 2013 at Don Bosco Institute Guwahati. About 450 major superiors are expected to study and deliberate on issues concerning religious life. While most events will be held at DBI Kharguli, celebrations and public events will be held at Don Bosco School Guwahati.
''We are making detail plans to show case northeast Indian religious to the delegates most of whom will be first timers to the region,'' said CRI National President and Salesian provincial of Guwahati Fr V.M. Thomas addressing a meeting of 23 major superiors and their delegates in Guwahati, 3rd August.

Plans for the first day include Eucharistic celebration presided over by Archbishop John Moolachira of Guwahati and inaugural address by General of the Christian Brothers Br. Philip Pinto on the theme: Taking Jesus Seriously.

Former Archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil SDB will speak on: ''Religious: Mystics and Prophets'' followed by a talk ''Leadership of Women in the Church'' by Sr Sujita SND.

A special afternoon session is designed for incubation of innovative ideas for religious life called: ''Coffee Table: Religious Life Today - Call, Formation, Mission and Leadership.''

Evening highlights of the first day include: ''The Smell of the Sheep - the fragrance of religious India'' by Fr Hector D'Souza SJ and testimonials by eminent professional lay leaders who will offer the religious a learning experience.

The second day of the assembly is dedicated to sectional meetings for the three CRI groups: Sisters, Brothers and Priests -with several inputs and business sessions.

Third day starts with a key note address entitled: ''Religious Leadership in 21st Century,'' by CRI National president Fr VM Thomas.

Also slated for the day is inputs from Swami Agnivesh on ''Taking a Stand, Making a Difference,'' and a presentation on the findings of the empirical study on ''Religious Life in India Today'' by Fr Paul Parathazham.

The day will conclude at Don Bosco School Guwahati with concelebrated Eucharist presided over by Apostolic Nuncio to India Archbishop Salvatore Pennachio and a public function marking CRI Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

A book release event is scheduled during which the latest religious life related books of 2013 will be released. Among them will be a dream project coffee table book on all the religious orders working in India edited by DBI Director Fr. Johnson Parackal.
