Holistic Life Skills Training Program for Rural Youth of Dimakuchi By Fr. A. JayaprakashGuwahati, Jul. 25. A Holistic Life Skills Training Program for the rural youth of Farmline TEA Estate area under Dimakuchi parish was organized by Bosco Reach Out and conducted by Fr. Thadeus Kujur, Sdb, the Deputy Director of Bosco Reach Out, Guwahati from 9th July to 12th July, 2013.
The Holistic Life Skills Training Program was organized by Bosco Reach Out and coordinated by Mr. Probal Ghosh the project coordinator.
Fr. Thadeus Kujur sdb, deputy director, BRO Guwahati and Fr. Albinus Dhanwar Asst. Parish Priest Dimakuchi conducted the programme with the cooperation and support of Fr. Barnabas Mardi the Parish Priest and Principal of Don Bosco Parish and School Dimakuchi. There were 170 participants aged 14 - 20 coming from the interior villages of Farmline Tea Estate areas. The main purpose of the program was to bring all the rural youth together, teach and empower them with life skills and human values. The participants and the village leaders were happy, appreciative and grateful for the programme.
The program started with a short prayer service invoking God's blessings. The sessions were held from 9am to 5pm everyday. They were taken very creatively by the resource persons Frs. Thadeus, Albinus, Barnabas and Mr Probal. The participants liked the sessions because the topics were relevant to them and were explained in their own language, with reference to their own life situations. Short stories, inspiring sharings and motivational video clips were used to illustrate the topics in an interesting manner.
The entire programme was centered on the following topics: 1) Knowing oneself and one's Personality, 2) Building self-esteem, 3) Acceptance and Encouragement, 4) Confidence and Goal Setting, 5) Time and Money Management, 6) Health and Hygiene, 7) Alcoholism, 8)Use of Mobile phones today, 10) Education, 11) Leadership and 12) Faith and Prayer Life. The participants commented saying that they really liked and appreciated the program.
On the last day of the programme the participants themselves coordinated a short cultural Get-together during which they expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the organizing team and resource persons. The program had a mixture of dances, inspiring messages and an enchanting magic show by Fr. Thadeus Kujur.
