The Telegraph Axom Shrestho awards Father V M Thomas SDB for his contribution in Education and Youth Development

Guwahati, Oct. 29. The Telegraph Axom Shrestho 2016, in its second edition hosted by The Telegraph awarded Father V M Thomas, Provincial for his outstanding contributions in the field of Education and Youth development. The award presentation was held at the banquet hall of Vivanta by Taj on 28th October. The event was presented by Indian Oil Corporation in association with Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals.
Eleven other achievers, who have made a mark in fields such as films, theatre, sports, literature, art and culture, dance and music, business, fashion, education and social work, were also felicitated at the function.
The award ceremony started after a minute's silence to pay homage to the two persons who received the awards last year and passed away recently.


The award were unanimously nominated by a jury comprising singer Pulak Banerjee, Sahitya Akademi awardee Vidyasagar Narzary, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals president and chief executive director of Indian Oil, Assam Oil division, Dipankar Ray.

Father V M Thomas, while speaking at the occasion said, ''it is events such as these that inspire people to do more good works.'' He also said that the reason for starting Don Bosco Institute is to help young people get g employment and develop skills. A Harvard graduate in educational administration, planning and social policy Father VM Thomas has contributed significantly to the society through education.

The Bihu husori troupe set the tone for the function in the beginning. The event was supported by DY365 as television partner and 93.5 Red FM as radio partner. The guest list comprised a host of celebrities, bureaucrats, artistes and professionals.
