Don Bosco School Panbazar holds Peace Rally and Teachers' Seminar on 'Joy of Giving'

Guwahati, Sep. 10. The Salesian Province of Guwahati in collaboration with the Archdiocese of Guwahati, together with the Catholic Religious of India, took out a peace rally from Judges Field to Don Bosco School, Panbazar on 9th September morning to celebrate Mother Teresa's recent canonization. Students from over 30 different schools participated in the rally. Around eight thousand students and teachers holding placards and blue and white balloons marched the city of Guwahati as a sign of respect to Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata. The rally was flagged off by Dr. M Angamattu, IAS, DC of Kamrup.  
The rally which ended in Don Bosco School Panbazar ground saw violinist Sunita K. Bhuyan perform A.R. Rahman's Maa Tujhe Salaam as a tribute to Saint Teresa. Bhuyan had also performed at a concert in homage to Saint Teresa, entitled The Joy of Giving, during the canonisation ceremony in Rome on Sunday.

The homage was followed by 'Mother Teresa Fest' in which the finals of the school competitions were held. Father VM Thomas Provincial of the Province of Guwahati inaugurating the fest said that Mother Teresa was a face of service and love. ''Mother Teresa was an icon of compassion for all, especially for the lepers, sick, the dying, destitute and the abandoned. She gave dignity to the last and least in society and gave them a stroke of love in their dying moments,'' said Fr Thomas, adding that the young generation should learn that giving brings joy that lasts forever.

On 10 September, a seminar on Mother Teresa was held at Don Bosco School Auditorium at 9.30 am. The resource persons at the seminar were renowned violinist Dr Sunita K Bhuyan and photographer Rohit Suri. Around thousand teachers from different parts of Assam attended the seminar on the theme ''Joy of Giving''.
