Youth Rally for Ecology at Kuda Village, Dimapur By Fr. Paul Panii sdbDimapur, Oct. 2.
The Annual Youth Meet 2012 of Kuda took place at Salesian College, Kuda Village (Dimapur) on 30th September drawing a large number of youngsters for fun, festivity, friendship and formation. The fiesta commenced at 9.15 A.M., inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria, Salesian Provincial, Dimapur. The theme of the Youth Fest this year was unique, being ''Youth for Ecology''.
Rev. Fr. Carlous Neisalhou, the Vicar General of the Diocese of Kohima, presided over the Holy Eucharist. He exhorted all the students and participants to have a good and harmonious relationship with the Mother Earth. In the same tone he also inspired the youth present to love all of God's creation, including animals and birds, and work towards its preservation.
In the latter part of the morning, students of Salesian College conducted sessions for about an hour instructing the youth on Ecology. They strove to conscientize and motivate them of the need to preserve the forests and protect birds and animals that live in them. They were also instructed about the importance of emitting less carbon into the atmosphere, faced with the threat of global warming and the accentuating Greenhouse Effect.
In the afternoon the youngsters gathered in the College auditorium for fun and festivity through a shared cultural programme. The chief guest for the programme was Mr. Nibu Nagi from Kuda village, accompanied by his wife. He too spoke to the youth about the importance of keeping an ecological balance and the need to care for the environment for the sake of their future generations.
Mr. Nagi inspired the students by narrating his own life experiences, and how he had to struggle hard to come up in life. He said that as a youngster he had to sell vegetables, run pan shops and perform odd jobs to fund his studies and be successful. Today he is the director and proprietor of highly successful business houses - the N.N Construction and Decor, and Hotel Tragopan. He exhorted the students to work hard and to be creative private entrepreneurs instead of every one joining the rat race of seeking Government jobs.
The highly engaging programme of the day came to a happy conclusion with the distribution of prizes for the Bible Skit and Bosco Singout competitions held in the month of August. The Youth Director Rev. Fr. Christudoss sdb also awarded prizes to some Youth Volunteers of the Oratory centres as a sign of appreciation for the help they had rendered.
