Rua Home, Jorhat felicitates new priests of Dimapur Province By Fr. Tarcisius ToppoDimapur, Feb. 7. On February 06, 2012, the eight new Priests of Dimapur Province - the highest so far in recent years - were felicitated at Rua Home, Jorhat, the aspirantate of the Province. The ones felicitated were Frs. Rang Anthony, Jose Thomas, Linson Louis, Jossy Mathew, Hans Igness, Hingba Michael, Rajeesh Devasia and Rajesh Tirkey as well as Frs. Saju Puthussery, Rubin Panthackal and Lijo Kalambadan of Bnagalore Province. Fr. Anthony James of Bangalore Province, having missionary experience at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh, could not attend the programme.
The new Priests were accorded a rousing welcome by the Aspirants with colourful tribal dances and songs as well as with the traditional Assamese gamusas (scarves). The Holy Eucharist that followed was presided over by Fr. Jose Thomas. The Mass was concelebrated by 20 other Priests including the Provincial, Rev. Fr. James Poonthuruthil and the Vice Provincial, Rev. Fr. Nestor Guria. Many Sisters and lay people participated in the Holy Mass and prayed fervently for the newly ordained.
Fr. Rang Anthony, the homilist of the day, commenced his sermon with the memorable words of Don Bosco, ''When a son leaves his house to follow Jesus, it is Jesus himself who takes his place in the family.''
Basing himself on the two readings of the day (Jer.1:4-10 and Lk.1:39-56) Fr. Rang said that they the new Priests, like Prophet Jeremiah of the Old Testament, felt unworthy of the immeasurably great gift of God, the Holy Priesthood. But the assurance of God and the humble availability of Jeremiah inspire them too to be available to do God's holy will unconditionally. Their recognition of God's favour shown towards them inspires them to 'magnify' God just as Mother Mary had done in her 'Magnificat'. Acknowledging that their priestly vocational growth is a result of the' joint venture' of God, parents, past and present superiors and all those who have come across their lives, Fr. Rang expressed sentiments of profound gratitude to them all.
During the ensuing felicitation programme, Fr. Kamil Horo, Rector of Rua Home, Jorhat, cordially invited everyone. Rev. Fr. Provincial congratulated all the newly ordained Priests, particularly thanking the new Priests of Bangalore Province for offering themselves to help out in the various institutions of our Province for the coming few months. Through their meaningful songs, dances, skits and other performances the boys of Rua Home, congratulated and felicitated the newly ordained Priests. Fr. Linson Louis, whose birthday incidentally fell that day, thanked everyone on behalf of the eleven Priests felicitated that historic evening at Rua Home Home, Jorhat.
