Dimapur welcomes Don Bosco's Relic

Dimapur, May. 22. The much awaited sacred relic of Don Bosco arrived in Dimapur on 21 May. Hundreds of people gathered at the Nagaland gate to receive the relic of the most popular saint of the region. As a sign of welcome, Shri Maongwati Aier, Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Shri Zekotso Mero, Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, Shri Nikasha Sema, CEO, District Municipal Corporation and also the Provincial of Dimapur, Fr. James Poonthuruthil, placed bouquets of flower on the casket.

The relic was then brought to Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur where a programme was organized, which saw the participation of the staff and students of the school, parents, guardians, Don Bosco Alumni, priests and religious of the neighbouring communities and members of the Salesian family.

Other dignitaries present for the programme were Shri Savi Liegise, President, Naga Council, Dimapur, Shri Francis Pelevituo Solo, Provincial President, Don Bosco Alumni, Dimapur, Shri M. Kithan, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Nagaland, Shri P. Frankly, DIG, Dimapur range, and host of others.

In his appreciation speech, Deputy Commissioner, Maongwati Aier, said, it is beyond words to describe the contributions of Don Bosco in the field of education and uplift of the marginalized. Aier said that Don Bosco's system of ''preventive education'' has helped shaping the lives of many youth across the globe. He added that even in the North East, Don Bosco's noble deeds have helped many young people. Salesians all over the world have carried forward the values instilled in them through this system of education, he added.

Francis Solo, Commissioner Secretary for Higher Education and Provincial President, Don Bosco Alumni, Dimapur, also said that ''preventive system of education'' has produced many eminent personalities in the North East. He said many Don Bosco alumni are placed in high ranking jobs and still carry the values of the system. Fr. James Poonthuruthil, Provincial, described the arrival of the relic as a historic moment. He said that for many Don Bosco is just a school, but the works done by the Saint is beyond education.

The programme consisted of songs by the students in honour of the saint, and paying of homage by those gathered for the event - staff, students, parents and guardians, friends and well wishers of Don Bosco. The casket was then taken to St. Joseph's School, Chumukedima, where another reception was prepared by the students inspite of the inclement weather. After that it was taken to St. Mary' School, Padumpukhri. A colourful cultural progamme was presented to pay homage to the father and friend of the young.
