The Role of Educationists in Students' Movements By Sr. Deepa Mathew FCCDimapur, Feb. 15. DBCMaram 28 Jan 2011 ( www.dbcmaram.org ): Fr. Benny James SDB, the principal of Don Bosco College, Maram and the State Advisor of AICUF and Sr. Deepa FCC, the Unit Animator of AICUF, DBCMaram participated in the Unit Advisers and Animators Training and orientation Program at AICUF House, Chennai on 24 and 25 January 2011. The program began with an informal session on 23January 2001 where the delegates had the opportunity to interact with all the advisers and animators.
The first session was on ''Ground Reality: Context and Educational Scenario'' by Dr. Ramu Manivannam, Associate Prof. Dept. of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Madras. The second session of 24 January was taken by Fr. Erwin SJ and Prof. Selvanathan, Sr. Roseline and Fr. Zacharias SJ on ''What is AICUF? History, Constitution, Commissions''. Fr. Henry SJ took the third session on ''How is AICUF? A Political need''. The Moderator Fr. Henry SJ lead on to the last session of the day, ''Why is AICUF? Relevance of Student Movement'', which was followed by a Panel Discussion moderated by Fr. Claud SJ, Fr. K. Amal, Prof. Bernard D' Sami, Prof. Packiaraj and Prof. James Sundar. The day folded off with a documentary movie.
The second day of the meet began with a session by Prof. Packiaraj, ''Who is an Adviser / Animator?''(Skill development in the context of Student Psyche, Generation Gap, Academics and other pressures, digital and cyber influence.....). The other sessions of the day included ''Love's Labor's....... Lost or Found'' by the National Full Timers- Niraj, Suree and Dayana; a session by Prof. James Sunder, and yet another session on ''Our Commitment'' by Fr. Selvin Raj SJ. The program came to an end with Prof. James Sunder summing up the program and a valedictory Mass by Fr. Wenisch SJ. The program indeed gave insights to the participants on what are expected of an AICUF adviser and animator. The two days of programme gave all its members a new ray of hope - that AICUF can build strong pillars of society with young people who in are in educational institutions!!!
