Mr. T. T. Srinivasaraghavan, MD-Sundaram Finance in his address remarked ''The Music of Business is about 'good corporate citizenship' which is a much wider concept than Corporate Social Responsibility.'' Receiving the first copy Ms. Akhila Srinivasan MD-Shriram Life Insurance Company commended the authors while challenging not just the corporates but every citizen and especially those educated among them towards social responsibility.
Well-received and appreciated by business leaders, academicians and practitioners, the book asks pertinent questions and provides succinct answers. Asha Mathen, Vice President, Private Wealth Management, Deutsche Bank AG remarks: ''The academia-industry duo of John Alexander and S.Venkataraman bridge the gap between theory and practice by tackling the elusive million dollar question - can corporate social responsibility be every company and employee's raison d'tre rather than a mere fringe objective or fad?''
Bala Balachandran (Padma Shri 2001) J.L. Kellogg Distinguished Professor of Accounting and Information Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. USA exclaims: ''In an era where Transactional Leadership is preferred over Transformational Leadership, we have a 'fresh breath of unpolluted air' in the dynamic duo where practical relevance meets academic elegance in this most needed and timely book. The triangular forces exemplified in service, harmony, and culture is very well centred on corporate responsibility and accountability for all business stakeholders in the quest for wealth creation. This gripping and riveting book is a must-read for all business leaders, professionals, and students.''
The book advocates sustainable business charting three principles of corporate social responsibility -to create and sustain reciprocal service which improves people's quality of life; to maintain non-dominating and harmonious relation with other stakeholders; to promote a culture of responsibility through best governance practices and code of conduct.
Complimentary copies were given to the special invitees and the vote of thanks was proposed by the authors. A sitar recital by Ms. Sophia Ursula with Mr. Sasi at the tabla, and a peppy rendition of the Carpenters' Top of the World, by Kavitha and Joseph Dinesh added music to the day's business!
