YaR Child Policy Seminar Inaugurated

Chennai, Mar. 10. The YaR Child Policy Seminar was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. AM Chinnappa DD, SDB, Arch Bishop of Madras-Mylapore at 9:30 AM at the Citadel, Salesian Provincial House, Chennai. The other dignitaries present during the inaugural occasion were Fr. Vincent Mariapragasam, the YaR Coordinator of the Province of Chennai, Fr. Mathew Thomas, the YaR forum, Executive Director.
The YaR Child Policy Seminar was inaugurated by Most Rev. Dr. AM Chinnappa DD, SDB, Arch Bishop of Madras-Mylapore at 9:30 AM at the Citadel, Salesian Provincial House, Chennai. In his message to the participants he spoke of the need to have a promotive-positive approach in child services. He also mentioned the need to boost the emotions of children positively, so that they have an enjoyable experience of childhood in our settings. Ms. Gauri, the child representative to the inaugural function from Saranalaya spoke about the importance of child protection. Master Vijay, the other child representative from Anbu Illam spoke of the role models that he has found after he was given Shelter at Anbu Illam, Chennai. Fr. Vincent Mariapragasam, the YaR Coordinator of the Province of Chennai welcomed the participants to the Seminar. The YaR forum, Executive Director, Fr. Mathew Thomas introduced the seminar, placing before the participants the stark reality of the situations of children in our country and the need for equipping the salesian YaR mission with a comprehensive child policy to cater to the present challenges.
The four themes presented in the day's deliberations were: Vision of YaR Child Policy by Fr. Thomas Pallithanam, Guiding Principles of Child Policy by Fr. Johnson Bhashyam, Strategic objectives by Fr. Edward Alapurackal and Recruitment, Training, Documentation and research and HR policy in dealing with child abuse by Fr. C.J George. The proceedings were moderated by Fr. Kuriakose Pallikunnel.
Earlier in the day, at the Eucharistic celebration Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu, former provincial, Province of Chennai, expressed that it is the mission for Young at Risk, that gives Identity, Visibility and Credibility in today's context.
